Joy Bostwick was born in the United States of America in 1979. She graduated valedictorian from Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy in 1997. In 2003, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, with a focus in Spanish, an emphasis in Fine Arts, and a certificate in printmaking.
After graduating from college, Joy exhibited her work at Lanning Gallery, Sedona, Arizona from 2004-2006. During this time, she was featured in the “Kudos” periodical, and “Southwest Art” magazine. Her painting was chosen for the cover of Southwest Art’s popular annual issue featuring emerging artists, “21 Under 31” (September, 2004), and she was chosen as 1 of 21 collectible artists under the age of 31.
From 2004 until 2008 Joy exhibited her work at various galleries around her hometown, Flagstaff, Arizona. She sold over 60 paintings from 2004 to 2009.
When she and her family moved overseas, Joy had her first international exhibit in March, 2014 at the Urumqi Art Gallery as part of an exhibition celebrating International Women’s Day. In April, 2014 Joy exhibited her work “A Portrait of Xinjiang” in a solo exhibition sponsored by Volkswagen China at Grand Mercure Hotel, Urumqi. In December, 2014 Joy was sponsored by the USA Embassy in China to exhibit her paintings about Xinjiang at the Beijing American Center.
